MY VOKI

Get a Voki now!

This is a tool the teacher showed it.  It is like an online avatar.  It is pretty neat.  What is speaks is a sentence from my educational philosophy.  The educational philosophy is like my goal or what I want to expect from teaching.

The teaching standard this goes with is 3a.
"demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations."

This tool can be used to take what you know and put it on the web without using your actual face.  Also this can help with learning through the internet because the listener would actually be listening rather than reading the information.

Here is a link to my partial educational philosophy.

SURVEY

Today in class we created a survey.  We used  google docs to do so.  This site offers many different types of questions like multiple choice, short essay, ranking, and some others.  We then sent the form to others to fill out.  It is pretty neat.  You can take the survey by clicking here. MY SURVEY
This tool can be used by a teacher to inquire general information from students like age, schedule for semester, and how they learn.  It can also be used to administer homework or test.
After completing the survey, we then responded to each others and answered each others questions.  It is neat how you can also see the results of your survey competed by others.

Below is a link to the spreadsheet with the results.

This fits with teaching standard 5D
"contribute to the effectiveness, vitality, and self-renewal of the teaching profession and of their school and community"
A school can gather information through a community by a virtual survey.  This can be effective by helping a school realize any changes that need made in curriculum, activities, or other parts of the school system.

WEBQUEST

Today and part of last week, we started creating a webquest.  This is an online activity created by the teacher that students can do an assignment with.  I am currently in the process of creating it so I will publish it when I finish.

Today, December 7th, I finished my Webquest.  It is about shapes and their properties.
Here is a link to the assignment.
WEBQUEST

A webquest is a good idea for online teaching.  It would be great if the students had time off for weather issues.  The teaching standard this goes with  is 4a.

"advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources."

Using google can allow you to give credit for whatever you used in your webquest.  I like it because google also has a general layout and it is easy to fill in what you need.  A webquest can help the students follow directions.

WEB BASED TOOLS

ISSUU- This is an online PDF viewer.  It is neat because you can upload documents and view documents in a magazine style online.  Issuu is a free tool and can be used to display text books.
PREZI-  This is an online tool kind of like powerpoint.  It isn't based on slides like powerpoint.  It looks like a big picture with all the information on it.  You can create a Prezi and it seems to be easier to organize.  We did sign up for an account so we can begin our Prezi experience.  Here is a link to Prezei.
Here is also the sample Prezi I created.

JEOPARDY GAME

Today in class, we learned how to create a jeapordy game.  Here is a link to the free online jeopardy builder.
JEOPARDY LABS
We also used a poerpoint jeopardy.  The professor emailed us a sample template and we edited some of the questions with questions of our own.  It is neat with powerpoint because you can include sound clips and videos and images.  This can be used in almost any classroom with any grade.  It is cool how technology can hep present a lesson while having fun.
To download videos to include in powerpoint, the professor used a site called DIRPY.
The online version has limits.  It can be only used online, so you must have internet access, and also it is text based, meaning you can't include and of the cool features.
The only downfall with powerpoint, that I can see, is trying to keep all the slides organized in a presentable manor.

The teaching standard this goes with is 2D.
-provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching-

Interactive ideas like this jeapordy can allow students to experience new ways of learning and reviewing information needed to complete the assignments and learning outcomes for a class.

SLIDESHOW ANIMATIONS

Today in class we messed with powerpoint more and in powerpoint, we used animations.  It is neat because the thing I did was have a car drive over a smile hello face.  It's cool how you can use powerpoint to display certain things and make game boards.  I am excited to see all the abilities powerpoint can provide that can help in the assistance of teaching math.
Today, Thursday Oct 28th, we finished up our slideshow Animation.  We used tools like regrouping, action buttons which include hide and show content, creating hyperlinks within slides to take you to other slides.  Basically you aren't tied down to the order of a slideshow, you can create buttons that take you anywhere you want.

Unable to display content. Adobe Flash is required.

This entire assignment can be tied to teaching standard 4b)address the diverse needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies providing equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources.
Students have powerpoint available to them.  With this they can create, animate, and manipulate slideshows to express their own creative thinking.  It is neat because it can help students do their own thing and be able to express their own interest when creating a slideshow.

POWERPOINT

This week's assignment was to create a powerpoint and upload it to SlideShare.  This is just a website that can help publish powerpoints online.  I decided to do my slideshow on Car buying.  I focused on some things to consider and included some facts about cars like gas mileage and cost and features.
Articles that I used were as follows:

Using these I was able to get the information I felt I needed.  Also the instructor provided some online resources to help create an effective powerpoint.  One was Presentation Zen.  This helped me see some example of boring powerpoints and what I needed to do to spice mine up.
We then uploaded our presentation.  It can be viewed by clicking here
MY POWERPOINT
The outcomes for this assignment were "Student can create, download, upload, and archive a graphic image.Students will be able to publish presentations in a variety of formats. Students will be able to select appropriate digital formats for publishing."
This assignment fits with teaching standard 4a: ~advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources~
Creating and publishing a powerpoint can allow students to share information legally while citing references and using technology to do so.

GEO MAP

Today we created a map with all of our classmates locations.
Here is a link also to give a bigger view.
MAP
and the map can be viewed below.

The learning outcomes were to "create, store, and share a web-based map through a variety of ways including embedding in a blog post and hyperlinks." We entered a map of information into the site  http://www.batchgeo.com/.  It is a neat tool to create your own personal map.

This can be tied teaching standard 3D.
-model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning-

Students can use this tool mainly in a history or geography class that works with maps.  They can create a legend and show the variety of distances people have from each other.  This is a digital tool that students have access to and this can help them learn more about mapping.

This assignment also works with the 21st Century ICT Skills.
"Use technology as a tool to research, organize, evaluate and communicate information
Use digital technologies (computers, PDAs, media players, GPS, etc.), communication/networking tools and social networks appropriately to, access, manage, integrate, evaluate, share, and create information to successfully function in a knowledge economy."

I used Google Documents to access a shared document created by our instructor.  I put in my information and then copied Everyone's information to the website BatchGeo. (which is linked above).

Professor's Calendar

This can help the teacher make sure the students are up to date with assignemtns and class lessons that are due.

This can meet technology standard 3C.
-communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital-age media and formats-
Having a calender accessible by the students is an effective way to ensure they have constant reminders of tests, homework, and projects.  It also can be beneficial because the parents can have access to it.  Parents are able to make sure their kids are up to date with all the information needed for the class they are involved in.

RESUME

Today, I created myself a resume and published it to the web.  Here is a link.
RESUME

The teaching standard this goes with is 3a.
-demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations-
A virtual resume allows anyone to access it anytime, and it shows the knowledge and skills someone has to be able to publish it to the web, even if it does use google docs.

MY CALENDER & WEBSITE

Today we created our own Calender and Website.  Using Google, we were able to make all of the connected.  Here is the link to my calender.  And here is the link to my website.

National Council of Teachers of Math

The next conferences will be held on:
1-Denver, CO • October 7-8, 2010
2-Baltimore, MD • October 14-15, 2010
3-New Orleans, LA • October 28-29, 2010
In Denver, they will be participating in more than 200 sessions and gallery workshops.  One workshop is titled "Why video games are the perfect medium to learn school mathematics".

This can meet the technology standard 5 a.
"participate in local and global learning communities to explore creative applications of technology to improve student learning."
These conferences give teachers the opportunity the gather nationwide to explore new ways to teach and help students learn the tools needed in math.  Gathering together can give math teachers a feel for how other teachers get across the much needed curriculum in a fun and neat way.

2nd Excel Assignment

So today we did yet another Excel assignment.  We had to create a formulas to determine a letter grade for a given score.  We also had to find the maximum and minimum values for given scores using the built-in max and min functions.  The next thing we did was found the range which was subtracting the min value from the max value.  We then had to format and make the cell worksheet look, in my words, fancy.  I had to upload it to google docs, but the formatting changes didnt occur.  I don't know why, but they didn't.  It might have to deal with the way I saved it.  So then I saved it as 97-2003 format and then uploaded.  The changes stuck.  So I guess you need to save it as a lower version of Excel.  To aid us with this assignment, we used the HELP box to construct an IF statement to calculate the Letter Grade for each final average.  Below is the link to view my assignment online.
Other things we did was colored the tabs.  We also had to calculate a final percentage for each student.  Assignemnts were 25% of the grade, tests were 50% of the grade, and the project was 25% of the grade.  We had to create a formula based upon this information.  A neat tool we used was the "drag handle" which can copy a formula to a new cell.  It saves you from having to type the whole thing in again.  It is pretty cool.  To help spice up the table, we added borders to help organize everything.

The Technology Standard this would go with could be:
2. a.
"design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity."
This excel assignment allows the students to use the built-in tools excel has to create and design formulas to solve equations and find out answers.  The cool part is the student can make up their own formulas and use them for the future.

EXCEL ASSIGNMENT

Today was a challenging assignment.  I had to create an excel document based upon scores given for different classifications of students.  Here is a link to my published document, which I used google documents to help publish.  DOCUMENT  I also concluded, using the ttest, there is no significance between the highest score and other scores among different classifications.  The downfall I may have experienced is when using the ttest and using it correctly. Excel can be very beneficial to math students to help them determine formulas and seeing how different formulas work.  Also I made a chart displaying the average scores among the different classifications.
This assignment was at test, I feel.  We also had to format texts and charts.  I feel I did ok on this, but I may need a little more work on this type of stuff.

This activity goes with teaching standard 3B.-collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation-
Excel is a program that can help students with many different skills.  Formulas, Organizations, Charting, and Graphing are just some of the ideas behind using Excel.  Teachers can use Excel to help give the students more knowledge about those ideas and can allow the students to better the chances of success because the students are able to have a better understanding of those key concepts that they can use basically with whatever they pursue.

Action Research

The past few class periods, we have been working on an Action Research project.  We have been taking data from a spreadsheet and making calculations based upon gender and student classification.  We now are typing a research paper based upon our findings.  We include tables and charts to help explain our results and to help give a mental image of the gender and classification of students. We just copied and pasted the charts from our excel project. Some of the excel formulas consisted of average, sorting function, and table formatting.  We also had to format our paper in the style of APA.  The teaching standard this goes with is 2d.

-provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching-
Excel can help students understand content, like math formulas, that are hard to explain in class.  They can see it work for themselves as they are doing.

Uploaded Video to Youtube

Today in class, we found a powerpoint and made it into a video using Photo Story.  We then uploaded it to youtube.
It is also embedded below.

Here is a link to the program I used and can be downloaded by clicking below.

Photostory

The teaching Standard this goes with is 2c.
-customize and personalize learning activities to address students' diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources-
Using Photostory can allow students to edit videos to benefit them and help themselves learn the material their own way.  It is a step-by-step digital tool that is easily accessible, if the computer the student is working on has it.

Types of Storage

Our assignment was to illustrate the different types of storage devices out there.  Here is a link to the types I came up with
STORAGE TYPES
Also here is the image itself.

Though there are many types of storage each has both good and bad qualities.  With virtual like e-mail and jing, you are able to access it anywhere, but you have to have internet access.  With the physical storage, you can carry it around with you like a cd or thumb drive, but you risk losing the device.  That's why it is nice to save in more than one place to have a back up.  The drawing tool I used was Microsoft Powerpoint.  It is pretty neat because you can oragnize and arrange in any way you want.  I used the table tool to create a table of both storage types.
The teaching standard this assignment satisfies can be 1C.
This can allow the student to creatively think of ways to save work.  A student can play with the different ways to save an assignment to allow him or her adapt to the world of technology.  The student can also upload assignments and send them to the teacher to avoid losing a physical copy.
Knowing the different ways to save work on a physical or virtual space can help preven assignment loss and allow the student to gain a better understanding of technology.

EmBedding Youtube Video

This is an Amazing Video!!!

Using Jing to Make a Video

Today I used Jing to make a small video on how to open an existing File.  This is a neat function of Jing because I am able to do something small to help get a point or a lesson across to someone.  Here is a link to my video online.

Self Portrait

Using a Picasso self-portrait website, I designed a self-portrait of me.  It turned out pretty interesting.

Here is also a link to view it online.
SELF-PORTRAIT

If you would like to draw yourself, you can follow the link below to Picassohead.

PICASSOHEAD

This activity goes with teaching standard 1a.
-promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness-
Students can make a creative virtual Picasso of themselves.  They can explore the creative aspect their mind and can make an image of creativity.

Jing Tool

Today we used the tool called Jing.  I took an image of candles and annotated it and published it to the web.  I ended up installing the update to complete the project.  Here is a link to my picture.   CANDLES
Jing is pretty cool, especially since you can record a video and such.  This can allow students, in my classroom, to share images they may find online.  This can be very beneficial for math because it can allow students to help figure out measurements of sides and angles and share how they got the answer they did.

SNIPPING TOOL

Today we learned about an amazing thing called the snipping tool. I snipped this picture of the awesome Statue of Liberty.

For the Technology Teaching Standards, this can fall under 2C.  This tool can allow a student to think outside of the standard copying and pasting.  With this I am able to copy anything, even if the site doesn't allow.  Also I am not limited to pictures or a whole paragraph of text.  I can copy a picture with text or just a half of a sentence.  Also with this piece of technology,. I can annotate the picture, which means I can mark it us.  As shown below. I added the smiley face beside the torch.

Post-Test Personality

O.K I was suprised when the test showed that I was more of a guardian type.  I didn't choose guardian because it says guardians tend to stick to traditions.  I think of myself to go beyond traditions.  In church, I try my best to stray away from the traditions.  Guardians are also serious about their duties.  I am very serious when it comes to commitment to my job and other tasks I take on.  I want to get them done and I try my best to make sure it gets done right.  My job is Assistant Manager of a restaurant.  It can be a hassle, but the aspect of authortiy is not taken with great care.  I try to make sure authority stays in tact.  In aspect of a Guardian, they feel authority is precious so I can relate their.  I was so sure though I fit in somewhere else, but I guess a person can have more than one personality type.  I do feel that I still I am capable of being a cold rational or a spiritual idealistic leader.  I guess it just depends on how much focus I put on toward a specific feeling or action I take.  You can view the personility test I took by clicking here.

In accordance with the technology teaching standards, this test can be used under the standard 1B.  This is something that can help students realize the different personalities that people may have. Also if I am aware, or a student is aware, of the personalites, I can easily identify which personality that other individual holds.  This test is also beneficial to students because a student can better understand him or herself and mayeb notice something they didn't realize before.

Personality Pre-Test Blog

I have not taken any type of personality test.  When first presented with the question, it is hard for me to choose a single personality.  I am outgoing, a strong leader in my church, and like to presented with a challenge.  I work hard and do my best to accomplish the pressing goal.  The personality I seems to fall under is the idealist.  Something that stuck out with the rationale, however, is the fact that they tend to be cold and distant.  I have had a few people tell me that I am very quiet and tend to draw away from the crow.  So i guess i have a little bit of both in me.

FIrst Blog

Well this is my first blog ever and it is very interesting.  I wonder how this works our but I guess I can see.
